The ‘Tommy x Supervsn’ collab celebrates the next generation of American creatives.
AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS (JULY 2023) – Tommy Hilfiger, which is owned by PVH Corp. [NYSE: PVH], announces its collaboration with Los Angeles-based Supervsn Studios. Tommy x Supervsn pays homage to both brands’ community-driven origins and celebrates the multicultural fabric of the USA by championing the next-generation of American creatives. Supervsn founder Gavin Mathieu established the studio to champion the ideas of creatives from underrepresented communities. An inclusive vision reflected in the way Tommy Hilfiger opened his first store, People’s Place, a space for people from all walks of life to come together to enjoy fashion, art, music and entertainment.
“I founded my brand with inclusivity at its heart as a place that welcomes all”, says Tommy Hilfiger. “Supervsn give me great hope for the future by empowering diverse creatives. We are proud to make a collection fueled by community and determined optimism.”
The collection and campaign represent a Tapestry of Americana – a celebration of how communities come together to shape culture. The
“Tommy x Supervsn is a celebration of American multiculturalism”, said Gavin Mathieu. “A tribute to the people of color responsible for creating America, recognizing that the only way to make change is to work together, marrying creative visions in harmonious ways.”
The collection is oversized, washed out and reflects a Los Angeles state of mind. Faded yet bright colors talk a language of laid-back optimism including shorts made from a blend of camos and tie-dye. Jackets, T-Shirts and a French terry hoody feature a symbol for new Americana - a flip on the Tommy logo in American red, white and blue paisley remixed with the colors of the Pan-African flag. Bold statements include ‘Trust The VSN, Not The Algorithm’, encouraging creatives to value their progress, create from a place of confidence, and ignore the outside noise.
The campaign features the Supervsn creative family and invites the audience to engage with the making of the Tapestry of Americana by shining a light on the communities and cultures that inspired the collection. A film shot by Cole Santiago and Gavin Mathieu himself goes behind the scenes to view contemporary expressions of screen printers, sewers, sign painters and photographers, all working on the collab, bringing their visions into reality. Photography by Jack Bool focuses on a multicultural world seen through the lens of Supervsn’s extraordinary creative community.
